RECAP June 2025 from CM Cook's Office🤙
Aloha kākou🌺
Councilmember Cook here!
I’m excited to share updates and inspiring events that have brought our Maui community together this June.
Let’s dive in and celebrate the progress we’ve made, while looking ahead into fun events and useful resources available to Maui community this month.
What’s Happening in Our Community?
⚠️Lahaina Debris Removal Transfer
Transport of Lahaina wildfire debris began on Monday, June 16, 2025.

The operation entails transfer of approximately 400,000 tons of debris from Olowalu Temporary Debris Storage site to the Permanent Disposal Site near Central Maui Landfill in Puʻunēnē.
Up to 50 trucks, with “Lahaina Wildfire Debris” decals, are making multiple trips daily during daylight hours, seven days a week for an estimated five months.

This is a collaborative effort of the County of Maui in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Hawai’i Department of Transportation (HDOT), and Hawai’i Department of Health.
Thank you to everyone in supporting this important phase of recovery.
For more information and to track progress, visit MauiRecovers.org/debristransfer or call the USACE Debris Hotline at (877) 214-9117.

South Maui in Action!
Earlier this month, our South Maui community celebrated the completion of a beautiful street art project at the intersection of Kenolio Road and Alulike Street in Kihei.
🎨South Maui Quick Build: Street Art Project

The initiative “serves as a traffic calming measure, promoting awareness to among all road users, adds vibrant color that reflects local culture, and strengthens the neighborhood’s sense of place.”

Mahalo nui loa to the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization, the County of Maui Department of Public Works, the Department of Planning, the State Department of Health, the Healthy Eating + Active Living Coalition, SSFM International, and the Ulupono Fund at the Hawaii Community Foundation for collaborating, supporting, and organizing this wonderful project.

And a special shoutout to all volunteers🎉, a.k.a. amazing artists, who brought the art to life and making our South Maui community more radiant and inspiring.
