Warm Holiday Wishes to Maui County 'Ohanas 🤙

Recap of the summer and fall months from the Office of Councilmember Tom Cook.

Aloha,

The summer months were filled with vibrant community events and celebrations.

As we move through this season of gratitude, we’re reminded of things we are grateful for. This time of year invites us to pause, give thanks, and recognize the strength and aloha that we create together as an island ‘ohana.

Personally, I want to thank everyone in our community for your endless inspiration, love, and aloha that uplift us all. May everyone’s holiday season be filled with joyful moments, abundant blessings, and the warmth of loved ones.

Heading to the last few weeks of 2025, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the past few months and all that we’ve shared as a community. We hope you enjoy this recap of recent events and community updates.

Here’s to many more memories to come!🎉

Happy Holidays,

Tom

A heartfelt thank you to the HSAC leadership team for creating a space for connection and partnership among Counties across our State.

Honoring Councilmember Natalie Tasha Kama

August 14, 1952 — October 26, 2025

For nearly 40 years, Councilmember Tasha Kama dedicated herself to our community through unwavering public service. Her kuleana to serve our island communities reflected her deep love for this island and its people. Tasha’s leadership, commitment, and humility made a lasting impact for the lives of many and her grace and wisdom will continue to light the way.

Tasha was not only a colleague and friend, but someone I deeply looked up to as a mentor, a role model.

I will cherish the laughter we shared, the wisdom you so freely offered, and the example you set for what it means to serve with aloha. Your guidance has shaped the way I show up for our community, and I will carry your lessons with me always.

I am truly grateful that I have gotten to know you as a dear friend and honored to have served alongside you.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Tasha’s family, friends, and everyone whose lives she has touched.

Tasha, your love, kindness, strength, and aloha will always be with us.

Rest in Aloha🌺

In August, DHHL held a blessing ceremony for the Pu’uhona Homestead, welcoming families into the first homes of the project.

The Pu’uhona Homestead project, launched in 2023, is planned to deliver 137 turn-key single-family homes and 24 vacant improved lots for Native Hawaiian beneficiaries. With the mission to expand affordable housing, the DHHL Hawaiian homestead program continues to serve as a foundation for generation prosperity among Native Hawaiian families.

Following the blessing, DHHL presented the Maui AG Project Lease Award in September.
